When summer temperatures rise, there is nothing better than getting away to the mountains for a cool weekend.
During the summer months, The Village at Northstar is a perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts and dog owners.
Located in Truckee, north of Lake Tahoe, Northstar Ski Resort is well know to snow bunnies.
But Northstar stays active year-round with their mountain bike trails and hikes.

What are Tahoe restaurant rules for pets?
In California, pets are not allowed inside restaurants unless they are a service animal.
Out of respect for people with disabilities, please enjoy eating on patio areas throughout the village with your leashed dog.

Enjoy outdoor patio dining with your dog
Thankfully, there are tons of options for outdoor patio seating in the Village at Northstar!
Most restaurants are open year round. Our family favorite is Rubicon Pizza Company, which has great gluten free options.
Copper Lane Café and Provisions is another favorite, where you can stock up on any toiletries or groceries while you are there.
Los Arcos Mexican Restaurant also has great patio seating but limited hours in the summer.
As you dine, enjoy watching the roller skating rink in the middle of the village, open until 8:00pm.

Stop by Raley's dog bakery for a safe, sweet treat!

Just down the road from the Village at Northstar is another sweet find: a full dog bakery menu at Raley's Grocery store.
There is a display case with options that include puppy birthday cakes and cupcakes.
What a fun option for your furry friend!
Hike around the Village
To get the most out your stay, be sure to explore the many hiking trails around the Village at Northstar.
I started near the Northstar Recreation Center, and hiked about 3 miles along peaceful nature trails that were perfect for beginners.

Leashed dogs can ride the Big Springs Gondola for free!
It is safest to enjoy your ride to the top and walk around with your dog, rather than mountain biking due to other riders.
However there are plenty of paved paths around the Village that are perfect for biking with your dog.
