Finding Pet-Friendly Destinations in Fairfield
We made a recent weekend stop in Fairfield, California. While not known as a premier destination for pet owners, it does a few spots you will want to check out. Renowned for its charming neighborhoods and outdoor spaces, the city positions itself as a convenient retreat. Sandwiched between the Bay Area and Sacramento, this area is a comfortable pit-stop between two major urban areas.
Fairfield stands out with a range of parks, dog-friendly restaurants, and accommodations that cater to pet owners. Just outside of Napa, you are also close to Suisun which also has wine tours galore. These options enhance the accessibility of the city for those who consider pets part of the family.
Fairfield's pet-friendly appeal is its abundance of outdoor parks that provide ample room for dogs to explore. Notable spots such as Allan Witt Park and the expansive Suisun Valley offer scenic trails and open areas for pets to roam on and off-leash. These parks serve not only as recreational spaces for dogs but also as social hubs for you!
Fairfield hosts various pet-friendly events throughout the year, letting owners engage in outdoor activities. As a result, visitors can enjoy community gatherings that celebrate their pets. With ample green spaces, dining options, and a variety of attractions catering to dog lovers, Fairfield, CA, provides an inviting atmosphere for those looking to sit, stay, and enjoy quality time with their canine companions. Below are the stops we explored in a quick overnight visit.
Parks in Fairfield with Your Dog
Fairfield, CA offers a wealth of parks and outdoor spaces that welcome dogs, providing an ideal setting for owners to bond with their pets. One of the most popular spots is the Suisun City Waterfront, which boasts stunning views and a pleasant walking trail along the water. This area features a spacious boardwalk accommodates dogs on leashes, making it perfect for afternoon strolls. The accessible waterfront invites dog owners to relax while their pets explore the area.
Allan Witt Park is another noteworthy destination for dog lovers. This park includes designated areas where dogs can be off-leash, allowing them to socialize. The park’s green spaces and walking trails make it excellent for longer hikes with your dog. They also provide amenities such as dog waste stations. The park is convenient for families and pet owners alike, offering playgrounds for children while providing ample areas for dogs.
In light of Fairfield’s dog-friendly parks, you can readily enjoy the outdoors with your pup and let them stretch their legs if you are passing through on a road trip.
Dog-Friendly Restaurants in Fairfield: Dining Out with Your Pup
Fairfield offers a variety of dog-friendly restaurants, allowing you to dine out and not leave your pet alone in a hotel or RV. In California, only service animals are allowed inside restaurants, so look for outdoor patios.
One spot we tried was Panera Bread in Gateway Courtyard. There was outdoor patio seating. This spot is located in an outdoor mall area with wide sidewalks, ample lighting, and other shops. For those who prefer coffee or a light snack, Barnes & Noble was in the same area and we enjoyed browsing there. You can also find ice cream and other snacks at Gateway Courtyard.
There are also plenty of drive-thru options such as Chick-Fil-A and Dunkin' Donuts to get through quickly with your pet. If you don't have time for a sit down meal, you will find fast food options for every dietary need. Fairfield has a bit of an industrial feel, so it is easier to breeze through these options quickly if you are passing through on a longer trip.
Accommodations: Where to Stay with Your Dog in Fairfield
Finding pet-friendly accommodations in Fairfield, CA was surprisingly easy. Fairfield boasts several options, ranging from hotels and motels to vacation rentals that welcome dogs.
We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Fairfield, where pets are welcome. We were pleased with how dog-friendly this hotel was and they had clean up stations outside for pups. This hotel is also walking distance to the Gateway Courtyard shops mentioned above, so you don't even have to get in the car. There is also dining in the hotel itself if you want to grab breakfast for an additional price. The staff were quite friendly and seemed to love seeing well-behaved, leashed dogs. The hotel's central location also allows for easy exploration of pet-friendly attractions in the area.
For a more home-like experience, consider vacation rentals such as those found on Airbnb or Vrbo. Many Fairfield hosts are open to dogs and may provide fenced-in yards, making them ideal for families traveling with pets. Searching for listings with specific pet-friendly filters to be sure dogs are allowed!
Surprise Find! Jelly Belly Factory Tour
One stop we made was the famed Jelly Belly Factory. While dogs are not allowed inside the factory, you can't visit Fairfield without checking this out. There are short trails and clean up stations to relieve your dog just outside, and RV parking if you need it.
Then self-guided tours allow you to spend as much or as little time as you want seeing the Willy Wonka-like world of Jelly Belly. There is a candy store to stock up on all things jelly bean for your road trip and an art gallery of pictures made from the candy. What a treat!
